If you are looking to waste your time this weekend, then we can think of no better way to do it than to go see the latest Transformers movie The Last Knight. It’s a ridiculous film with a plot so insane that you really have no idea what you’re watching, and whose explosions and fight scenes are really just there to make you forget that nothing is making any sense. That being said, 2017 has had its share of good movies that any fan of the art form really should see. Here are our favourites.
Wonder Woman: You might think that superhero films have been flooding the market too much (and we really can’t blame you) but Wonder Woman proved there are still some worth seeing. It brought something different to the field, namely a strong female driven hero that gets audiences around the world behind her. We can’t wait to see what they do for the sequel.
Logan: Yes, there were two truly good superhero films out this year so far, and for completely different reasons. In this case it marked Hugh Jackman’s swansong playing the character of Wolverine, and not only was it a violent action film, but it was unexpectedly touching as well.
Get Out: This horror movie written by a comedy actor took racism to a whole new level. It was shocking in a way that you find yourself surprised it was even made in the first place. In the end it’s the social commentary aspect of the film keeps you talking about it long after it has ended.
The Beguiled: Sofia Coppola’s re-working of the classic Clint Eastwood western is perfectly made. You’ll be hearing about this film come Academy Award season for sure, and it might just walk away with the Best Picture statue. Even with the year only being half completed, you can bet on the fact that this will be on many top ten lists in December.
The Lost City Of Z: Thanks to their previous bodies of work, a film starring Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller may not seem like it would be anything special, but this bio-pic is worth sitting down to watch. It might get more traction when it hits Netflix, but if you can catch it in the theatres, it’s worth watching on the big screen for the amazing cinematography.
